The ability of hot-melt connection is an outstanding advantage of PE water supply pipe material piping system. Hot-melt connection means that PE pipes and fittings can be connected by hot-melt, and the strength of the joint exceeds the strength of the main body of the pipeline and fittings. The PE pipe section can be connected to a long pipe by hot melt, and the diameter is basically unchanged, which creates conditions for the application of trenchless laying and pipeline lining repair.
The hot-melt connection methods of PE piping system include hot-melt butt (including saddle connection) and hot-melt socket connection. Hot-melt socket connection is suitable for pipes and fittings with relatively small diameter (generally below DN63mm), because the smaller diameter pipes and fittings have thin walls and small cross-sections, and the quality is not easy to ensure through butt joints. Hot melt butt joints are suitable for pipes and fittings with relatively large diameters. It has less material than socket joints and is easier to manufacture. In addition, the oxidized surface layer is cut before the connection, the connection pressure can be controlled, and the quality is easier to guarantee. From the perspective of development trends, hot melt convection is the mainstream of water supply pipelines.
The process and equipment (tools) of the hot-melt connection of the PE piping system are relatively simple, and ensuring the stable quality of the hot-melt connection mainly depends on the strict compliance with the specified operating procedures (especially the strict control of the three parameters of temperature, pressure and time).

The electrofusion connector includes an electrofusion socket connection and an electrofusion saddle connection. The outstanding advantages of electrofusion connection are reliable quality (considering reduction factors) and high construction efficiency. However, due to the higher technical requirements for the manufacture of electrofusion pipe fittings, their cost is also higher. Electrofusion connections are mainly used in small diameter gas pipeline systems. The guarantee of the stable quality of the electrofusion connection mainly depends on the strict compliance with the specified operating procedures and the quality of the electrofusion pipe fittings.
Mechanical connection
Mechanical connection includes clamping connection and clamping connection. Although the PE piping system mainly uses hot melt connection and electrofusion connection, in some applications, it is more convenient and economical to use machinery in the PE piping system. For example, in the maintenance of PE piping systems, it is sometimes inconvenient or impossible to use hot melt connections or electrofusion connections. If the damaged buried pipeline is repaired in the pit, the site conditions cannot guarantee that there is no water at the joint. Another example is that when a small number of large-diameter pipes need to be connected in the field, it may be uneconomical to use special equipment for hot-melt connection. In addition, when PE pipes need to be connected with other pipes, they also need to be mechanically connected.
