How to wear and remove the mask correctly?
How to wear and remove the mask correctly?Respirators, as protective articles used by medical staff every day, are indispensable tools for us to protect ourselves and protect patients. However, we found in the clinical work and sensory work inspection that many clinical medical staff, including some hospital full-time staff, have many misunderstandings about the use of masks. In the previous two series, we have separately classified, identified, and applied the masks. In light of the evidence-based, today we mainly explore how to put on and take off the mask correctly.
I have reviewed the literature, and the highest level of specifications in this regard is the "Hospital Isolation Technical Specification" issued by the National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2012. The most intuitive and easy-to-understand concept of implementing evidence-based sensory control concepts and implementation standards is 2015 The "SIFIC Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Operation Illustrated" published in 2014 is compiled as follows:
1 Wearing a mask
1.1 Appendix A (Normative Appendix) of "Hospital Isolation Technical Specifications": How to wear a mask [1]
A.1 How to wear surgical masks
A.1.1 Cover the nose, mouth and chin with the mask. The lower band of the mask is tied behind the neck and the upper band is tied to the middle of the top of the head, as shown in Figure A.1.
A.1.2 Put your fingertips on the nose clip, start from the middle position, press inwards with your fingers, and gradually move to the sides, shape the nose clip according to the shape of the bridge of the nose.
A.1.3 Adjust the tightness of the lace.
A.2 How to wear a medical protective mask
A.2.1 Support the protective mask with one hand, the side with the nose clip facing away from the outside, as shown in Figure A.2.
A.2.2 Cover the nose, mouth and chin with the protective mask, and the nose clip should be close to the face, as shown in Figure A.3.
A.2.3 With the other hand, pull the lower strap over the top of the head and place it under the ears behind the neck, as shown in Figure A.4.
A.2.4 Then pull the upper tie to the middle of the top of the head, as shown in Figure A.5.
A.2.5 Place the tip of your two fingers on the metal nose clip, start from the middle position, press the nose clip inward with your fingers, and move and press to the sides respectively, and shape the necessary clip according to the shape of the bridge of the nose, as shown in Figure A.6.
A.3 Notes
A.3.1 There should be no portable nose clip.
A.3.2 Medical surgical masks can only be used once.
A.3.3 The masks should be replaced promptly after they are wet or contaminated with blood and body fluids from patients.
A.3.4 Each time before wearing a medical protective mask into the work area, a tightness inspection should be performed. Inspection method: Cover the protective mask completely with both hands and exhale quickly. If there is air leakage near the nose clip, adjust the nose clip according to A.2.5.
1.2 "SIFIC Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Operation Illustration": Section III Occupational Protection 2. Surgical mask putting on and taking off process [2]
1.2.1 Process of wearing surgical mask
Step 1: The mask covers the nose, mouth and chin, and the strap under the mask is tied behind the neck.
Step 2: The upper strap is tied to the middle of the top of the head.
Step 3: Place the tip of your two fingers on the nose clip, start from the middle position, press inwards with your fingers, and gradually move to both sides, shape the nose clip according to the shape of the bridge of the nose.
Step 4: Adjust the tightness of the lace to make it fit the face.
1.2.2 Process of wearing protective masks
Step 1: The protective mask covers the nose, mouth and chin, and the nose clip is tightly attached to the face. Pull the elastic band of the mask with both hands, pull it over the top of the head, and put it behind the neck and in the middle of the head.
Step 2: Put your fingertips on the metal nose clip, starting from the middle position, press the nose clip inwards with your fingers, and move and press to the sides respectively, shape the nose clip according to the shape of the bridge of the nose.
Step 3: Press the front of the mask with both hands.
Step 4: Positive pressure tightness test. Positive pressure appears in the mask, indicating no air leakage. If air leakage occurs, adjust the position of the mask or tighten the strap.
Step 5: Negative pressure tightness test. Negative pressure appears in the mask, indicating no air leakage. If air leakage occurs, adjust the position of the mask or tighten the strap.
2 Removal of the mask
2.1 Appendix A (Normative Appendix) of the Technical Specification for Hospital Isolation: How to wear the mask [1]
A.4 How to remove the mask
A.4.1 Do not touch the front of the mask (contaminated surface).
A.4.2 Untie the lower tie first, then the upper tie, as shown in Figure A.7.
A.4.3 Put the strap of the mask by hand and throw it into the medical waste container, as shown in Figure A.8.
2.2 "SIFIC Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Operation Illustration": Section III Occupational Protection 2. Surgical mask putting on and taking off process
2.2.1 Procedures for removing surgical masks
Step 5: Do not touch the front of the mask, first untie the lower strap.
Step 6: Untie the upper tie again.
Step 7: Squeeze the tie with your hand and throw it into the medical waste bag.
Step 8: Hand hygiene.
Precautions
Note 1: When removing the mask, do not touch the front of the mask.
Note 2: Surgical masks can only be used once; when the mask becomes wet, damaged or obviously contaminated, replace it in time.
2.2.2 Process of removing protective mask
Step 6: Grasp the two elastic bands with both hands at the same time, lift the head and take off.
Step 7: Squeeze the elastic band with your hand and throw it into the medical waste bag.
Step 8: Hand hygiene.
Precautions
Note 1: Do not touch the front of the mask (contaminated surface).
Note 2: When the protective mask becomes wet, damaged or obviously contaminated, replace it in time.
Note 3: The "Code for the Prevention and Control of Hospital Infections by Airborne Diseases" requires: ensure that the medical protective masks are finally removed in a safe area [3].
